HOSTA SIZE CHART
We are often asked, "How long will it take for my hosta to grow to mature size?" The answer depends on several factors. The most important factor is the plant itself. Not all hostas are created equal in size. There are some that will never get larger than 2" across; some will be 8' x 8' at maturity. We have included a size rating with each hosta. Use this as an indicator of the plants' mature size. The second most important factor is the plant's growing conditions. A hosta will grow better if given additional moisture, a little fertilizer, and soil amended with organic materials. A third important factor is the amount of sunlight the hosta receives. All hostas like bright shade, and some will do well in bright sun. A hosta growing in dappled sunlight, in a wooded area where the tree limbs are trimmed to allow more light, will grow better than a hosta in a dark, densely shaded area.

Size refers to estimated height of plant at maturity. Most hostas tend to be twice-to-three times wide as their height when mature. Upright forms are an exception; they tend to be slightly less wide than high when mature.

Mini = less than 6" high Small = 6" to 11" high
Medium = 12" to 20" high Large = 22" to 30" high
XLarge = 31" to 40" high Huge = 41" high and over

American Hosta Society Size Chart
AHS uses the following measurement to calculate Hosta size. Their size standard is based on the surface area of the leaf (length x width, ignoring curvature). This standard is used for authorized cut leaf shows and official size classification.

Giant >144" Large = 81" to 144"
Medium = 25" - 81" Small = 6" - 25"
Minature =2" - 6" Dwarf = < 2"
